If you start by visiting our external area, you may see students practicing swimming in the olympic-sized pool or playing exciting games in the multi-sports gym, and you may also be able to spot a group practicing capoeira, one of the most popular extracurricular activities at Colégio Cruzeiro. Inaugurated in 1999, it incorporated the tradition of more than 160 years of quality teaching at Rio de Janeiro’s first German school (Deutsche Schule) into a privileged space, surrounded by 100,000 m² of Atlantic forest. Many science and environmental education classes, for example, take place in the woods surrounding the main building. And our school also has a vegetable garden, prepared and taken care of by the students, with the help of the teachers and staff.

Your visit may continue through our classrooms, designed to encourage creativity and active student participation. With mobile desks and state-of-the-art technological resources, we provide an innovative learning environment where teachers are supported by the Education and Technology team, which is constantly looking for new tools to enrich the educational process. Since we are a non-profit institution, maintained by the Sociedade de Beneficência Humboldt, any financial surplus is invested back into teacher training and also to improving teaching and learning conditions.

Don’t miss a visit to the Cruzeirinho classrooms, which are exclusive for our little ones and they provide the necessary warmth for the times when they are concentrating on other activities. They also have specific moments of playtime, which is very serious business in Preschool. A great option to finish your tour is to get to know the school’s two libraries, with different arrangements and collections for children and young people, and literature books in Portuguese, English and German.

With a highly qualified teaching team, your child is going to have a complete education here while exploring their abilities in after-school activities. They’ll also be encouraged to get involved in one of the various social action projects run by Colégio Cruzeiro. These are volunteer activities, such as children’s and adults’ recreation, sports, storytelling, environmental education, teaching German, among other activities, carried out in various partner institutions of the Projeto de Ação Social, which is part of our school’s integral and humanist education proposal.

Due to the strong emphasis on teaching two foreign languages, German and English, those who attend Colégio Cruzeiro since kindergarten are going to finish high school with the following international proficiency certificates: IVA, DSD I, DSD Il, for proficiency in German, and the Cambridge Certificate, for proficiency in English. Besides that, there is the traditional Study Trip to Germany, which takes place every year with the 2nd grade class (High School). In this way, they prepare themselves for a globalized world that is constantly evolving.
